Are You Pushing or Pulling?

The Internet can be a tool that offers the ability to set up a business that runs on autopilot. To do so, you must get every aspect of your business organized correctly and well. Marketing is always viewed as the most important determining factor affecting the success of an online business. Employing an effective marketing strategy will create laser- targeted traffic to your website, with prospects ready to whip out their credit cards to buy whatever you created for them.

Let’s take a few minutes to look at the big picture, and see where our marketing efforts should go.

Push Marketing vs Pull Marketing

All online marketing falls into two method: Push and pull. Some definitions first:

Push marketing is thet type of marketing where you push your message out to your audience.

Pull marketing is the type of marketing where you place ads and hope they will pull people to your website.

To marketing gurus, this is as basic as breathing in and out. But would-be business owners will find it a little bit hard without the benefit of a marketing education.

You website is like a doorway. Think of marketing as a kind of force on your prospects. You can either pull people through the door or push them through the door, depending on how your present your message to them.

What is Pull Marketing?

Pull Marketing is the type of marketing where you develop advertising strategies to entice the prospect to buy your product or service. Your ad is hosted in one spot to be seen by people. The key to successful Pull Marketing is to create a sense of curiosity or time limited value so that the prospect will buy from you. One of the advantages of Pull Marketing is that you can set it and forget it.

A good example of pull marketing is a profitable Pay Per Click campaign. Once your ads are converting, your main concern becomes not getting outbid and/or improving your landing page(s) to get a high quality score to keep your ad position for your selected keywords.

Pull Marketing include:

  • Pay Per Click
  • Banner Ads
  • Classified Ad Sites
  • Testimonials

There are four things that you MUST do right when using Pull Marketing:

1. Select rights keywords (especially for PPC)
2. Choose your affiliate sites carefully or create a professional website or landing page
3. Use a great headline in you ad
4. Create curiosity or desperation

What is Push Marketing?

Push Marketing is the type of marketing where you develop advertising strategies to create consumer demand for your product or service. Push Marketing is pro active. You are going to your market to get their attention long enough to create interest. In recent years, another type of Push Marketing is taking over. It’s the referral and word of mouth marketing. When happy customers are encouraged to spread the word to their friends and families, that’s a type of Push Marketing, or when a company makes a controversial ad and then creates a little buzz, that is yet another type of Push Marketing.

Push Marketing include:

  • Ezine Ads
  • Email Marketing
  • Pop Up Or Pop Under Ads
  • Slide In Ads

There are four things that you MUST do right when using Push Marketing:

1. Know your target market
2. Create a great headline
3. Sell benefits and provide incentives

Push marketing usually creates results faster than pull marketing because you are proactively sending your message. You choose how, when, and how often prospective customers see your selling message.

Push or Pull Your Prospects: Which One Is More Effective?

Which one, Push Marketing or Pull Marketing, is right for you? It’s a choice you’ve got to decide for yourself based on your budget, your market, and how much time you can invest, etc.

In general, Push Marketing works best for products that meet a specific need of a specific niche or market. Dog training is an excellent market where you can use Push Marketing to your advantage because it is easy to target and identify your prospects.

Pull Marketing, however, works best for products that are broader in nature. Money-making products or services are good examples. People might want to sell vitamins, build a solid MLM downline, do typing, or consult. But they are all searching on the same term: how to make money online.

Almost any product can be marketed effectively with either strategy, or a combination of both. You need to strike a balance to create a great marketing mix that powerfully entices your prospects.

Whether you push or pull, let the entrepreneur’s motto be your guide …

Work like heck and advertise using these two types of marketing efforts. It’ll be worth it!
