6 Mistakes That You Should Avoid When Advertising On Google

Google AdWords is an effective means of pulling in targeted traffic to your website. It allows you to get your website listed on the first page of the search results on Google and its advertising networks for virtually any keyword phrase you can imagine. I’m convieced that Google is the best advertising channel that can generate consistent and quality traffic day in and day out. Google Adwords is a typical Pay-Per-Click advertising, often abbreviated as PPC advertising. PPC advertising is pretty competitive, and it’s impossible to achieve success with mistake ridden AdWords campaigns. Making as less mistakes as you can is the first step of avoiding being taken out of the Internet marketing game.

Before tapping into a new market segment, you should test it with Google first, and then move on to experiment with other advertising methods using the data and statistics of traffic patterns you get through Google AdWords. However, you’d better do it right first, because advertising on Google is not something you can afford to screw up. If you don’t know the proper way to implement Google’s system, you’ll end up getting slapped by Google.

After working with Google AdWords for the several years, I have pretty much experienced every mistake one could make when using Google AdWords. Below is a list of the top 6 mistakes that you should avoid.

Four Realities You Should Be Aware of — By Brian Rooney

There are a few realities that go along with building any business and I want to take a moment to share some of them with everyone:

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

REALITY #1: If you want to make money, be prepared to work.

When someone tells me “I don’t have time to work this system”, I have to just scratch my head. The reality is that this is an excuse. We all have the exact same amount of time in the day.

When I find myself feeling this same way, I have to remind myself of something I read that pretty much summed it up for me.

We all have the same amount of time.
We have the same 24 hours that Hellen Keller got.
We have the same 24 hours that Albert Einstein got.
We have the same 24 hours that Bill Gates gets.
We have the same 24 hours that everyone gets.
We choose how to use those 24 hours.

I remember very well what it was like to work 3 jobs. I would get up in the morning and go to job #1 ( I hated it. I was a janitor). When that shift was over, I would go to job #2 (phone sales). In the evenings and during the weekends, I would do whatever odd jobs I could pick up. These would include carpentry, cleaning boats on the local lake, etc…

THEN… after doing that, I would still spend time learning about the Internet and online marketing. Sometimes, I would get very little sleep or even no sleep at all before I had to start that job cycle all over again!

I was tired. I was frustrated. I was not making anywhere near enough money.

But I was also motivated because I knew I didn’t want to continue on that cycle of life. Eventually, I was able to replace those stinking jobs as I learned more and essentially made myself more valuable.

When someone tries to tell me, “You don’t understand what it’s like to ” I have to really be careful. My first thought is usually anything but “kind”. I DO understand. I remember it all too well. And it was the very thing that motivated me to never go back there again. You may have a job. You may have 2 jobs… three jobs.

Here’s the reality check: If you want to get out of those jobs, you are going to have to spend the time to learn and build your business. If you want to take your life back, you are going to have to spend the time and do the work. Even if that time is during the late evening or early morning hours. You don’t necessarily have to stay up all night like I did. You could decide to wake up 30 minutes earlier in the morning or skip the late TV shows you may be watching.

I found that I could learn a LOT in that 30 minute time slot I used to waste watching just one television show. I used to watch more than one show, too. I would find myself trying to “escape” by watching TV at night. I used the excuse that I was “unwinding”. We all know that there is a difference between unwinding and just wasting time. When I got serious about changing my life, watching pointless TV shows was one of the first things to go.

Quick Tips For Google Adwords

I am sure that there must be one simple question that is hovering over each of online advertisers using Google Adwords as one of their major advertising strategies. This question is: how many keywords are supposed to be advertised for each Adwords campaign.

My experience with Google tells me that the key to a successful campaign does not lie in the amount of keywords being advertised. It all depends on how targeted your campaign is. The secret lies in the perfect match between the product and the niche you are operating in. You must learn how to deliver targeted promotions that pinpoint the needs of your market. Google Adwords is an excellent advertising channel, but it will cost you an arm and a leg if you don’t do it right. Of course, many advertisers out there are fine with advertising a few hundred keywords. But if you can attract quality traffic from a few thousands of keywords, you are going to boost your profits with the same product.

Here is a list of things you need to do before throwing keywords into a huge keyword list (which in my view won’t work with Google Adwords).

1. Determine your target audience:
To create a successful campaign, it is integral that you know exactly who your audience is. Give people what they want. This is where many online marketing newbies screw up. And this can explain why product related keywords are generally working so well.

2. Find high traffic keywords for your campaign:
If you dump all of your keywords into an ad group without finding which ones are the most expensive, you are running into great problems. You’ll burn through a bunch of money before you know it. Put similar high traffic keywords in their own lists and optimize your landing page (Never send your traffic to your affiliate websites directly. You will get the so-called Google Slap, meaning your advertising costs will skyrocket to an unacceptable level.) based on these keywords to get the lowest possible minimum bids. After optimizing your landing page, you need to check the keyword density, as well as other optimization points, using a keyword density checking tool. Also, you may wish to try using Dynamic Keyword Insertion for your campaign.

3. Group similar keywords together:
Group your keywords together, and use the keyword in your ad title. You’ll notice an increased CTR (click through rates), and you’ll pay less and lower your bids because of the high quality score you get.

4. Creat ad groups with as little keywords as possible:
Use the common keyword strategy to group keywords. Refine your ad copy to make sure your main keyword appear at least once. Some of my campaigns have 50 to 100 ad groups, with each containing less than 25 keywords.

5. Use Broad, Exact and Phrase match types:
Use Broad, Exact and Phrase matching will definitely increase your CTR as a whole. I’ll explain it in the future why this strategy is working with Google Adwords.

6. Create commonly misspelled versions of high traffic keywords:
In general, people who are surfing the Internet don’t have patience. They are looking for quick solutions to their problems, or searching for opportunities to gain pleasure. You’ll be surprised by the amount of traffic generated from misspelled keywords.

I hope that these Quick Tips will give you a little insight into how the Google PPC campaign is working.

Transform Your Life Towards Greatness

Today I got an email from my Berry Tree upline Shane Woods. He reveals the secret behind his creation of a successful online business. I like what he says in the mail and want to share it with you. Below is the excerpt:

Maybe you’ve heard this before . . .

“Look at the income of the 5 people that you hang out with most and your income will be roughly the average of those people.”

I’ve heard it many times, and have done a lot of introspection on this idea. I do believe it to be absolutely true, but for many of us it’s just not that easy to seek out 5 highly successfully people and hang out with them enough for their ideals to rub off.

I look at the people I hang out with most, and when I do an income analysis of what they make compared to myself I’m left scratching my head.

Why?

I’m doing way better than all of them. I don’t say this to brag, but rather to try to work out why I’ve been able to achieve success when I don’t necessarily hang out with hyper successful people.

You wanna know what I discovered?

I cheated my way to where I am. There is absolutely a way to rub elbows with the best and brightest and have their way of thinking rub off on you enough to make great gains in you life.

What has allowed me to break away from the pack while still spending most of time with them?

The one thing I do is I listen to motivational material every single day and it’s rubbed off on me in a big way.

My iPod is packed with Jim Rohn, Les Brown, Earl Nightingale, Zig Ziglar, Napoleon Hill, etc. You name it and I’m listening to it on a daily basis.

It’s literally a way to cheat your way to a millionaire mindset.
Wake up each day and listen to something highly motivational for an hour and you’ll see just how little time it will take you to start approaching those goals you once
thought were just dreams.

Thanks,
Shane Woods

This is one of the most important lessons I’ve learned in my whole life. For so many years, now matter how many goals I set and no matter how hard I worked, I never seemed to accomplish much. This is because I had no distinction between my goals and my vision. What opened up my life to an entirely new level is when I realized that my vision is not my goal at all. A goal is something you want to achieve within a specific period of time, while vision is what you expect or what you see for yourself. Your vision is perhaps the most important determining factor for your success.

I’ve been a member of Success University for more than one year. I’ve learned a lot from this great program. Affiliate Marketing Guideline

One of the most popular online businesses these days is affiliate marketing, which is now a $6.5 billion industry (Source: Marketing Sherpa) and is expected to reach approximately $230 billion by 2008 (Source: Forrester Research, August 2003). No wonder people are talking about the bright future of affiliate marketing. However, what shocked me when I read forum threads about affiliate marketing was the incredible demand for the basics, such as what exactly affiliate marketing is, where to get started, and how to promote affiliate programs. In view of this, I’d like to cover the basics before delving into the details of affiliate marketing.

What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing simply means you link to a product from an Affiliate Network or an independent merchant and then promote it on your site. You get a commission when a person clicks the link on your site, gets redirected to the merchant’s site, and makes a purchase there. Sales tracking and order processing are both handled by the Affiliate Network or the merchant. All you need to do is build traffic to your site and pre-sell your visitors by writing reviews, endorsements, or product comparisons.

We can define affiliate marketing as revenue sharing between affiliates and merchants, whereby compensation is made based on performance measures, typically in the form of sales, clicks, registrations, or a hybrid model. Making money through affiliate marketing is one of the most rewarding careers an average person (affiliate in this case) could ever have, while paying only for performance shifts much of the advertising risk from the merchants to the affiliates. Therefore, affiliate marketing is actually a win-win partnership for both affiliates and merchants.

Many gurus may tell you to simply join affiliate programs, and you’ll be on your way to make a killing promoting them. This couldn’t be further from the truth. You will always be faced with three questions: What affiliate programs should you join? How do you attract targeted traffic to your site? How do you promote the program when visitors finally land on your page? Below is an immutable law of affiliate marketing:

Targeted Traffic + High Conversions = Huge Revenue

Please notice that I said targeted, quality traffic. Not random, useless traffic.
